Hitting the worst front of weather with torrential rain and wind we found some gaps in the weather to Old Man of Storr and Fairy Glen for their Isle of Skye Elopement.

They had their legal ceremony at Portree Registry office followed by personal vows at the stunning Fairy Glen. Fairy Glen holds a sense of magic and wonder, a short drive from Uig it can be combined with photos at both the Quiraing and Old Mann of Storr.

The area was formed over 100,000 years ago by post-Glacier landslide creating unusual patterns of cone-shaped craggy hillocks, random boulders, tranquil lochans, and even a basalt castle formation called Castle Ewen. The rowan trees and rock formations give the sense of the fairies being there full of the sense of historical Scottish folklore.

We found a beautiful spot by a waterfall for their personal vows. Having their legal ceremony at the registry office in Portree allowed us to work around the weather. We even made the best of a puncture in their van tire and went down to Eilean Donan Castle.

Adventure photoshoot at Old Man of Storr

Alison & Michael combined their Fairy Glen elopement with an adventure shoot on a second day at Old Man of Storr. The rugged rocks of Old Man of Storr are stone monoliths created in an ancient landslide. The rock faces and the views out to sea with Rassay and Rona in the background make it the perfect backdrop for an Isle of Skye Elopement or adventure photo session.

Embrace the adventure and hike to the top of the hill, it will take 45min – 1 hour but I can guarantee it will be worth it. When I first went to Old Man of Storr back in 2016 the original car pack was a small pull-in at the side of the road and the hike was fairly difficult, now in 2024 there is a large car park and the path has been improved (this was done over the covid pandemic!). This also means that the area can be a lot busier, my top tip would be for a sunrise photoshoot. If you are going for summer embrace an evening sunset elopement as it is light till around 10pm in the summer months. We can also photograph over 2 days picking more than one location ss Alison & Michael did.
