CREATIVE WEDDING PHOTOGRAPHER IN SWEDEN – Way Up North 2015
“Every wedding is an adventure” Ed Peers
As the year draws to a close I am so blessed to have had so many amazing adventures this year (2016 looks to be full of even more adventures, but more of that on my round up blog which I will be putting together full of too much Turkey, chocolate and fizz on the days before Hogmanay). One of the adventures I had this year was first first trip to Sweden to Stockholm for Way Up North wedding photography summit ran by Cole and Jakob of Nordica photography.
Boarding the plane to Stockholm from Edinburgh I was excited for two days of inspiring talks from some of the world’s best wedding photographers and bloggers (including Jonas Peterson, Fer Juaristi, Jasmine Star, Nessa K and Kat from Rock N Roll Bride blog) as well as getting to meet other wedding photographers from across the world.
My friend and talented photographer Natalie and I arrived a couple of days early to exploring the city checking out the city hall, the old town, the palace as well as checking out some vintage clothing shops and of course enjoying lots of amazing food (I had to try the reindeer balls!). I fewll in love with everything about Stockholm, the beautiful light, sunsets, the glittering rippes in the ströms, the cold crisp air and not to mention the stunning landscapes I saw from the place and on my bus ride into Stockholm.
It was a hugely emotional few days for me listening to the speakers in the breathtakingly stunning Skandia Theatre. The all had a unique message and presence and I found every speaker so down to earth, inspiring, honest, helpful and open. So much of what they said really helped me to reiterate the reasons why I do what I do and what inspires me. Emotion, connection and telling a story.
Learning from them and their journeys and reflecting on the journey I have come on in the last few years. Two and a half years ago I was sat helplessly unhappy in a call centre and how I’m in the middle of a degree in Web Design and Development and have just finished my first year as a full time wedding photographer creating special memories for all of my couples and telling their stories. I’m so thankful for every couple I have met over the last few years who has let me share and capture their wedding day with them and share their joy and happiness.
Stockholm gave me a chance to take some time out to learn, reflect, grow and move forward both personally and as a photographer. I left Stockholm feeling inspired and ready to take on new challenges.
Here are some snapshots from my iPhone and from my camera from my trip:
I would love to visit Stockholm or Sweden again. Please get in touch if you are planning a wedding or destination wedding here!
